The Best Time to Quit Smoking Is Now
The Best Time to Quit Smoking Is Now
I am compelled to write this article to remind people of the
dangers of smoking. Cigarette smoking is known to cause lung
cancer and is also linked to bladder, larynx and esophageal
cancers, as well as heart disease. Smoking is not glamorous as
the billboards and magazine ads depict. Smoking is not cool; it
is the very opposite and so very harmful to your health. You are
playing Russian roulette with your life if you continue to
smoke. The chemicals that ...

Garlic for Health
Garlic is a traditional tonic in many cultures.
In my teens and twenties, I was very aware that one should not
eat garlic or onions out of respect for other people (e.g.,
bosses or potential dates). However, garlic breath does not
bother me nearly so much as the foul stenches caused by tobacco
use, lazy dental care, lack of exercise, obesity, and / or poor
bowel regularity.
I now use a lot of garlic, bought as pre-peeled cloves or dried
minced chunks. I frankly like the taste. For those who ...

Soy Foods for better health
Soyfoods aid longevity. Although a few authors dispute this,
most literature found on the reputable internet sources show
that traditional soyfoods, especially those with live cultures,
correlate with reduced risks of various diseases without
negative side effects. But the maximum benefit comes from using
soy foods to replace a large fraction of the diet normally
occupied by high sources of saturated fats.
In other words, don't just add soymilk and soy shakes, soy based
artificial cream ...

Fourteen Reasons Why Dieting Is Bad For Your Health
1. The lower the calories eaten per day, the harder it is for
you to get your daily requirements of proteins and vitamins.
2. Dieting makes your body believe it is starving so it starts
to save fat, as this is its best way to store energy.
3. Losing weight means digesting your own body tissues instead
of food and unfortunately, dieting does not tell your body what
parts it needs to digest or which parts to save.
4. Severe dieting causes muscle loss and if you are unlucky the
loss may be from ...

Poor Dental Hygiene May Account for Poor Health
Bright white teeth and fresh breath does not necessarily mean
you have a healthy mouth! General health is directly related to
gum health. Gum disease has been linked to several medical
conditions such as stroke, diabetes, heart attack and worsening
lung disease. Healthy gums can reduce a person's biological age
by up to 6.4 years. Why? Because studies show that the presence
of periodontal diseases, most common in people with tooth loss,
actually affects longevity. The best of these studies, ...

Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Your Health
Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Your Health by Cheryl Winter, M.S.,
R.D., R.N.
Overview:
While you know 'omega' as the last letter of the Greek alphabet,
and meaning, 'the end,' it is doubtful that you have heard the
end about 'omega-3 fatty acids.' In fact, you'll be hearing more
and more about this long-chain fatty acid and how important it
is to your health, and how American diets should be increased in
this nutrient. Isn't FAT a Four-Letter Word?'
No! Fat is not a bad word! It's understandable that ...

Moderate exercise is necessary for good health.
At a minimum, walk a mile or more several times a week (or
daily) and move the arms around to loosen up the joints.
If you can't walk or ride a stationary bicycle, use a rowing
machine, swim, or join wheel chair races.
If you can do none of these things, you have my sympathy.
I had a young colleague who suffered from polio in child- hood,
so one leg was short and supported by a built-up shoe. One day,
this person was absent from the office, because a lung had
collapsed. He should at least ...
